From the Principal's Desk - Mr. SILAS Pillay

Belonging to a school with pride is an essential pre-requisite for success. We are indeed proud of our tradition and heritage as the first pioneer school in the Midrand Area since 1923.

2016 marks a milestone in the Halfway House Primary yearbook, as we commemorate this rich 93 year legacy with the launch of our school flag. Not many schools can boast the designing of their school flag being done by the designer of the South African flag, Mr Fred Brownell from the Department of Heraldry. Furthermore, we were blessed to have a parent website sponsorship ( Thaven & Shamita Moodley ) culminating in the launch of a new website which will run alongside our D6 communicator in 2016.

Embedded in the school's flag, motto and vision & mission statement is our commitment to deliver quality teaching and learning. To this end we strive for standards of excellence and the holistic development of learners to nurture and develop their academic, sport and cultural skills. Besides adequate resource provisioning such as pools, tennis courts, ICT labs, sports fields etc.. , the backbone of our school is a dedicated and committed team of educators and support staff to walk the extra mile to uphold our schools mission.

Primary School provides the building blocks for future success by catalysing the development of learners in their formative years of early childhood development. However, this does not merely entail academic knowledge and skill – but also aims at inculcating life skills and values. We drive a character transformation programme aimed at instilling core values in our learners as future citizens of our country. Halfway House was proud to receive the accolade of winner of the Productivity Award 2015 at the Provincial Level of Productivity Awards. The school's continuous improvement and development further resulted in us being the only school who entered the Productivity Awards as the national finalist.

The school's choir was chosen to perform at the State Theatre and was also invited to other private schools to showcase their remarkable talent. Our learners have gone up to provincial level of athletics, cross country, debating & public speaking, soccer etc... and we also chartered into new territory with the launch of drum majorettes as a new extra-mural in 2015. Under the coaching of Mrs Bester our drum majorettes competed in the Presidents League as well as the Gauteng Provincial Championships and did exceptionally well . One of our Grade 2 learners who was initiated into chess from Grade 1( Zander Arjunan ) has won several Chess Tournaments & Competitions and received an official invite to compete in the World Youth & Cadets Chess Championship in Greece. It is encouraging to note that our learners are upholding the HHP Flag in the community and country at large.

Our excellent results in English, Maths and Science Olympiads attest to our success in the core business of academic excellence. The culmination of hard work, partnership and unity of purpose has resulted in several bursaries and scholarships being awarded to our learners at the exit points of Grade 6 & 7 to prestigious private & public high schools.

We are thus humbled and blessed to be a school of preference and encourage you to shoulder this mammoth task & responsibility of perpetuating this model of excellence & upholding our schools vision.

Deputy Principal Ms. Elize Kotze

I have been part of Halfway House Primary School for over 30 years as a teacher and even started my schooling at this Primary School. Education is a powerful tool which has the potential to impact on the lives of many, as it has on mine. My aim as a teacher and Deputy Principal has always been to prepare our learners to be socially just and willing to treat everybody with dignity and respect while engaging in the education process. Rules and values are the basis of a good education. Not only do they promote an important sense of discipline in children, but they prepare them for the real world which contains even more rules than the school. As a Deputy Principal my vision and mission is to lead by example and embody the beliefs and values of our school, Halfway House Primary.      elize.kotze@hhpschool.co.za

Deputy Principal Mrs. Maureen Selowa

Our Vision is to ensure that every learner leaves our institution with the knowledge, skills and qualifications that will give them the best chance of success in adult life. We are committed to improving the reading and writing skills of our learners, as these allows them to use language to communicate effectively. We are also committed to improving their problem solving skills through the critical thinking skills that they acquire in mathematics. We are aware of the transforming world where technology has become a necessity for day to day operations; hence we pride ourselves in affording every child in Halfway House Primary the opportunity to learn English and Mathematics using computers in our Computer Laboratories.
