Application Process

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) opens its application period annually for Grade 1 and Grade 8 admissions into public schools across Gauteng. Parents seeking placement for their children must submit applications via the official GDE admissions portal: https://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za. To ensure a smooth application process, all submissions must be completed within the specified timeframe, along with the necessary supporting documents. Online Applications (Grades 1 & 8)

In Gauteng, applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 placements are submitted online via the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Admissions Portal: GAUTENG.GOV.ZA.

Steps to Apply Online:
  1. Register Parent Details – Create a profile by providing personal information.
  2. Register Address Details – Enter your residential address to determine school feeder zones.
  3. Register Learner Details – Provide the child’s details, including any prior schooling information.
  4. Apply to Schools – Select up to five preferred schools.
  5. Upload/Submit Required Documents – Ensure all necessary documents are submitted to complete the application.

Direct Applications into Grade 1 to 7

For admission into Grade 1 to 7, applications must be submitted directly to our school.

  1. Parents seeking admission for Grade R and Grades 2–7 at a public school in Gauteng must apply directly at their chosen school(s), as these grades are not part of the GDE Online Admissions System.

Before applying for Grade 1 during the Online Admissions period, parents must ensure they have certified copies of the following documents:

Parent/Guardian Documents:
  • South African ID or Passport
  • If applicable: Refugee Permit, Asylum Seeker Permit, Permanent Residence Permit, or Study Permit
Child’s Documents:
  • Birth Certificate, South African ID, or Passport
  • Latest School Report (if applicable)
  • Clinic Card (Immunisation Report)
Proof of Address:
  • A certified copy of a valid municipal account in the parent’s name OR
  • A lease agreement, signed by both the applicant and the landlord, along with a copy of the landlord’s ID specifying tenant details.
    📌 Note: Applications cannot be processed without proof of residential/home address.
Additional (Optional) Documents:
  • Proof of Work Address (for parents applying to schools closer to their workplace).
Important Submission Guidelines:
  • Upload OR Submit: Parents must either upload certified copies on the GDE Online Admissions System (www.gdeadmissions.gov.za) OR submit them to all selected schools within 7 days—not both.
  • Ensure that all application details match the information provided in the uploaded/submitted documents.

To avoid delays, ensure all documents are certified and submitted within the required timeframe.

  • Feeder Zones: Priority is often given to learners residing within a school’s designated feeder zone.
  • Age Requirements: Children are typically admitted to Grade R in the year they turn five and to Grade 1 in the year they turn six, by June 30th.

Parents will receive notifications regarding the status of their applications via SMS or email, depending on the province’s communication protocols.

  • Upon receiving an offer, parents must confirm acceptance within the stipulated timeframe.
  • Failure to respond may result in the forfeiture of the placement.
